ECOWAS CONDEMNS MILITARY PLOT IN BENIN, VOWS FULL SUPPORT TO GOVERNMENT

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

ECOWAS has strongly condemned an attempted military takeover in Benin, calling it an unconstitutional effort to undermine the will of the people.

In a statement, the regional bloc praised the Benin government and the Republican Army for swiftly containing the threat and restoring stability. ECOWAS warned that the plot’s leaders will be held accountable for any loss of life or property.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional order and pledged full support to Benin, including the potential deployment of a regional standby force to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.
