DELTA ASSEMBLY PASSES ₦1.7TRN 2026 APPROPRIATION BILL

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Delta State House of Assembly has passed into law a ₦1.7 trillion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year. The approved budget is higher than the proposal earlier presented by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and reflects the House’s adjustments after legislative review.

Lawmakers said the budget prioritises both recurrent and capital spending to drive development across the state. Speaker Emomotimi Guwor described the passage as a major constitutional responsibility and a sign of strong cooperation between the executive and legislature. He noted that the 2026 budget is aimed at accelerating development and improving the welfare of Deltans.
