The European Union has launched a Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience project in Zamfara State to support peacebuilding and community recovery. The project, funded by the EU and implemented by IOM, Mercy Corps and the Centre for Democracy and Development, was unveiled at the Government House in Gusau.

EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Gautier Magnot, said the initiative builds on similar efforts in Katsina State and will focus on Gusau and Bungudu local government areas, with possible expansion to Tsafe. He explained that the project will strengthen community dialogue, early conflict response, psychosocial support and protection for vulnerable groups.

Speaking for partner organizations, IOM Head of Mission, Ms Dimanche Sharon, said the programme aims to address the root causes of conflict by promoting peaceful dispute resolution and restoring livelihoods, especially for youths and women.

Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal, described the project as timely and aligned with the state’s peace and development goals, assuring of full government support.
