Dorayi Quarters in Kano was thrown into deep mourning on January 16, 2026, after the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children shattered the peace of the close-knit Chiranchi community.
A neighbour, Malam Bala Abubakar, recalled that the day began like any other until desperate screams for help broke the silence. Residents rushed out immediately, including artisans working nearby, but arrived too late. He described the attack as extremely violent, leaving the victims lifeless in their home.
Abubakar dismissed claims that neighbours ignored the situation, insisting the entire community responded quickly and alerted security agencies. According to him, residents even surrounded the house to prevent the attackers from escaping before security operatives arrived.
Security personnel later discovered that some suspects were hiding within the compound, leading to arrests and further investigations. Despite the swift response, the victims could not be saved, leaving the community traumatised.
Community leaders also rejected allegations of indifference, praising security agencies for their persistence, which eventually led to the arrest of all suspects, some of whom reportedly posed as mourners during the funeral.
Today, Dorayi remains heavy with grief, but residents find some relief in the arrests and continue to call for justice, hoping accountability will bring healing to a community forever scarred by the tragedy.
