RUSSIA DECLARES END OF UNIPOLAR ERA, CALLS FOR STRONGER AFRICA ROLE

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Russia has declared that the era of a unipolar global order is over, calling for a more balanced world system that respects national sovereignty and gives Africa and the Global South greater representation in global decision-making.

Speaking at a diplomatic briefing in Abuja, the Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Andrey Podyolyshev, said global politics is shifting toward multipolarity, driven by the rise of new economic and political centres across Africa, Asia and Latin America. He stressed that diplomacy should be based on dialogue and international law, rather than coercion and unilateral actions.

The Ambassador said Africa is increasingly emerging as an independent force in global affairs, citing the continent’s integration efforts and economic potential. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to equal partnerships with African countries and support for reforms of global institutions to reflect present-day realities.
