SECURITY ALERT: KANO SHUTS DOWN POPULAR OPEN THEATRE

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Kano State Censorship Board has revoked the operating license of Sunsiro Entertainment, an open theatre in Sharada, Kano, over rising security concerns raised by residents and confirmed by police reports.

The Board said investigations showed that activities at the venue posed risks to public safety and community values. Acting on these findings, the Executive Secretary, Abba El-Mustapha, approved the immediate withdrawal of the theatre’s license in line with existing regulations.

The Censorship Board noted that the decision also reflects its broader effort to maintain order, especially following earlier restrictions on open theatres during Ramadan. It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that entertainment activities in Kano operate within the law and do not threaten public peace.
