EL-RUFAI TO FACE CYBERCRIME CHARGES APRIL 23

By:Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed April 23 for the arraignment of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, over alleged cybercrime and breach of communication laws. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the case after El-Rufai was absent from court when the matter was called.

Counsel to the Department of State Services told the court that El-Rufai was with the ICPC for investigations, prompting the adjournment. A request for bail by the defence was rejected, with the court ruling that bail can only be considered after arraignment.

The DSS accused El-Rufai of unlawful wiretapping linked to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, in charges bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act and the Nigerian Communications Act.
