ADC LAWMAKERS DEMAND INEC CHAIR’S REMOVAL, PROSECUTION
By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban
The ADC caucus in the House of Representatives has intensified pressure on INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, calling for his removal and prosecution over alleged partisanship ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers argue that actions and statements linked to the chairman have raised serious concerns about his neutrality and ability to oversee a free and credible electoral process. They insist the integrity of the commission must not be compromised at such a critical time.
INEC, however, has denied the allegations, maintaining there is no verified evidence connecting the chairman to the claims. The controversy is unfolding alongside internal tensions within the ADC, further heightening political uncertainty.
