SENATE CONFIRMS TEGBE, ENIKANOLAIYE AS MINISTERS

By:Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after their screening on the floor of the chamber. Their confirmation followed a request by President Bola Tinubu, who cited constitutional provisions empowering the President to nominate ministers subject to Senate approval.

During the screening, Tegbe stressed that Nigeria’s power crisis requires bold, transparent reforms, noting that past efforts have not delivered expected results. He cautioned against unrealistic promises, insisting that meaningful change in the sector would demand a new approach focused on execution.

He highlighted key priorities including improving power distribution, closing the metering gap and strengthening transparency, adding that Nigerians should be able to track performance through clear and accessible systems. Tegbe also pointed to the role of sub-national governments in electricity generation as a way to ease pressure on the national grid.

He assured lawmakers that progress would be measurable within a short period, maintaining that visible results would be a key indicator of success.
