AKPABIO CALLS FOR UNITY IN RESCUE OF ABDUCTED OYO PUPILS, TEACHERS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians to unite behind ongoing efforts to rescue schoolchildren and teachers abducted by terrorists in Oyo State, describing the incident as a tragedy that has shaken the nation.

Speaking on Tuesday while welcoming senators back from the Sallah recess, Akpabio said the abduction was not only an attack on innocent citizens but also a direct assault on humanity and the country’s future.

He cautioned against attempts to politicise the incident, stressing that all stakeholders should support security agencies in their efforts to secure the safe return of the victims.

The Senate President also expressed grief over the deaths of two teachers, Mr. Michael Oyedokun and Mr. Adesiyan Adegboye, as well as a child who lost their lives during the attack. He extended condolences to the bereaved families, the affected school community, and the government and people of Oyo State.

Akpabio said the Senate shares in the pain of the victims’ families and remains hopeful that those still in captivity will be rescued and reunited with their loved ones.
