KANO STEPS UP VOTER REGISTRATION AHEAD OF 2027 POLLS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Kano State Government has intensified efforts to boost voter registration ahead of the 2027 general elections, with authorities launching a fresh mobilisation campaign to encourage eligible residents to register.

The decision was reached at a meeting involving the State Task Force Committee on Voter Registration and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where progress of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise was reviewed.

Officials expressed satisfaction with the turnout recorded so far, noting that Kano remains among the leading states in voter registration figures nationwide.

The government said the renewed campaign would focus on increasing participation among eligible residents, particularly young people and first-time voters, to ensure wider involvement in the electoral process.

Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to working with INEC and community stakeholders to promote voter awareness and strengthen democratic participation across the state.
