NELFUND CONDEMNS UNETHICAL PRACTICES BY TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has raised concerns over the failure of some tertiary institutions to refund students whose tuition fees were paid before the disbursement of student loans.

In a statement, the fund also condemned arbitrary increases in tuition and other institutional charges, describing the practices as inconsistent with the objectives of the student loan scheme.

NELFUND said it is engaging the affected institutions and relevant authorities to ensure eligible students receive due refunds and that institutional charges remain fair and transparent.

The fund reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students’ interests and preserving the integrity of the student loan programme.
