KANO POLICE ARREST FIVE SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS, RECOVER FIREARM AND AMMUNITION

The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers and recovered an illegal firearm and 48 rounds of live ammunition in separate operations across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement, saying the arrests were made within 24 hours as part of ongoing intelligence-led operations and community policing efforts.
According to the statement, operatives of the Dorayi Babba Police Division, acting on information from a member of the public, intercepted a suspicious parcel at Rijiyar Zaki Motor Park on August 13. A Tokarev pistol loaded with 48 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition was recovered from the parcel.
Police said the suspect allegedly confessed to purchasing the firearm and ammunition from another state and forwarding them to another person. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest others linked to the suspected arms supply network.
In a separate operation at Jajaye Village in Rogo Local Government Area, police arrested five suspected armed robbers following credible intelligence. The suspects, identified as Basiru Ibrahim, 25; Saidu Madaki, 23; Sa’adu Ibrahim, 25; Lawan Yusuf, 24; and Muktar Salisu, 21, were allegedly linked to cases involving criminal trespass, conspiracy and armed robbery.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly involved in attacks that left victims seriously injured and resulted in the theft of about five motorcycles and other valuables.
The Command also reported the recovery of a stolen cow and ram in Gaya following complaints from residents. Two suspects were intercepted with the animals, while further investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspected members of the livestock theft syndicate.
The Police Public Relations Officer said investigations into the cases are ongoing and the suspects would be prosecuted upon completion of the investigations.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents for providing information that assisted the operations and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The Command said it would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, community policing and collaboration with other security agencies to improve security across Kano State.
