The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

The minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora, urging them to use the occasion to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and service to humanity.

He also called on Nigerians to pray for peace, unity and stability, while urging citizens to celebrate responsibly and show mutual respect.

Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security across the country.
