PETER OBI UNVEILS PRODUCTION-DRIVEN ECONOMIC AGENDA FOR 2027

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, says his administration will focus on production, investment, enterprise and human capital development if elected in the 2027 general elections.

Obi stated this while addressing journalists at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State, as he commenced his campaign activities.

He said his administration would boost agricultural production by improving security in farming communities, expanding irrigation, upgrading rural roads and storage facilities, and connecting farmers to finance and markets.

The former Anambra State governor also promised to create a business-friendly environment by reducing unnecessary regulations and infrastructure barriers. He said public funds would be managed responsibly, with government spending tied to clear and measurable outcomes.

On security, Obi called for better intelligence gathering and stronger coordination among security agencies. He also advocated community policing, improved border management and the use of modern technology to combat crime.

He described Nigeria’s youthful population as a major national asset and pledged to strengthen basic education, universities, technical and vocational training to equip young people with skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship.

Obi said his administration, alongside his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, would promote development based on the economic strengths of each geopolitical zone. He identified agriculture and agro-processing in the North-West and North-Central, reconstruction in the North-East, manufacturing and technology in the South-West, entrepreneurship in the South-East, and oil, gas and maritime opportunities in the South-South as key areas of focus.

He said the ultimate goal was to build an economy that produces more, creates jobs, reduces poverty and hunger, and improves the living standards of Nigerians.
