ANAMBRA GOVERNMENT ISSUES FLOOD ALERT

The Anambra State Government has warned residents of possible flooding following a forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) that the state could experience above-normal flooding this year.
The Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka.
Mefor said Anambra’s location within the Niger Delta belt makes it vulnerable to flooding, adding that the government was taking proactive measures to reduce its impact.
He urged residents to remain vigilant during the rainy season and avoid unnecessary movement during heavy rainfall.
The commissioner also advised residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer locations where necessary and seek help promptly during emergencies.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to cooperate with authorities to minimise the effects of flooding.
