NIGERIA, ITALY MOBILISE $5BN FOR GLOBAL EDUCATION

Nigeria and Italy have joined a global effort to raise $5 billion to improve education financing and expand access to quality education.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said the initiative supports Nigeria’s efforts to improve learning outcomes, strengthen teacher capacity and increase access to education.
Speaking in a video message at an education financing event on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, Tinubu described education as a key investment in Nigeria’s economic future and national stability.
Vice President Kashim Shettima said the HOPE-EDU programme is expected to benefit about 29 million children and 500,000 teachers across Nigeria.
Italy has pledged €50 million to Global Partnership for Education programmes, while other donors announced funding commitments expected to support the education of at least 370 million children worldwide.
