The Kwara State Police Command has recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 42 rounds of live ammunition during a stop-and-search operation along the Alapa–Okolowo axis of Ilorin.
The police arrested a 30-year-old suspect, identified as Umaru M., after the weapons were found inside a bag in a commercial vehicle. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspect initially denied ownership of the bag but later admitted that he was transporting the weapons.
Police said Umaru’s statement led investigators to another suspected member of the network, identified as Dan Yarubawa, who allegedly gave him the weapons for delivery to a person identified as Dahiru outside Kwara State.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to arrest the other suspects and determine the full extent of the alleged gun-running network.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo urged residents to provide credible information to the police as the Command intensifies intelligence-led operations to protect lives and property.
