The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will begin nationwide collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) on Friday, October 9, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced this in Abuja during a strategic workshop for editors organised by the Nigerian Guild of Editors in collaboration with the commission.
Amupitan said the commission had completed the processing and distribution of the first phase of PVCs to local government collection centres. He urged registered voters to collect their cards and use official channels to confirm their collection locations.
He also disclosed that Nigeria’s National Register of Voters now has more than 103 million voters following the completion of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise and final biometric verification.
The INEC chairman said the commission is strengthening its election technology and logistics ahead of the polls, including improvements to BVAS and the result management system.
He also warned against vote-buying, political violence, hate speech and the spread of misinformation, deepfakes and unverified election results, urging the media and the public to verify information before sharing it.
