The Kano State Government has increased the number of health facilities providing adolescent- and youth-friendly services from 340 to 743 to improve young people’s access to quality healthcare.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, disclosed this during a briefing to mark the 2026 International Adolescent Health Week.
Yusuf said the expansion was aimed at improving access to services covering mental health, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, menstrual hygiene and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections.
He stressed the importance of involving adolescents in decisions affecting their health and urged healthcare workers to provide respectful, confidential and quality services.
The commissioner also called on parents, religious and traditional leaders, educators and community organisations to help address barriers that prevent young people from accessing reliable health information and appropriate care.
He said the state government would continue working with development partners to raise awareness, strengthen healthcare services and ensure that adolescents receive the support they need to make informed decisions about their well-being.
