Activist commends INEC for adhering to election guidelines for PWD

Mr Mainas Ayuba, Bauchi-based activist for People With Disabilities (PWD) has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “for adhering to the special arrangement for the vulnerable group during the Feb . 25 elections.”

Ayuba gave the commendation in an interview with the NTV Africa in Bauchi on Monday.

He said PWDs were not disenfranchised during the elections as they were given equal opportunity like every Nigerian to vote for candidates of their choice.

He added that “INEC has fulfilled its promise on special consideration for PWD; our people came to the polling units,
cast their votes and left without any delay.”

He, however, said that some polling units mounted their booths on the veranda, which was a barrier for people with
spinal cord injury.

The activist pleaded with INEC to direct officials to mount polling booths on the level ground for easy access for those on wheelchair in the Governorship and State Assembly elections on March 11.
