SON LAUNCHES THE NIGERIA-NATIONAL STANDARDIZATION STRATEGY FOR MAXIMUM COMPLIANCE TO SAFETY STANDARDS AND QUALITY ASSURANCE 03-09-24
By Sadiq Aminu The Standards Organization of Nigeria will launch the Nigeria-National Standardization Strategy this month for maximum compliance to safety standards and quality assurance.
The Director, Standards Development Department in the agency,Dr. Ahmed Bukar made this known at a capacity building workshop for journalists under the aegis of commerce and industry correspondents association of Nigeria in Abuja.
Mr. Bukar stated that in line with its mandate, all efforts were on to ensure that no sub-standard products are in Nigeria markets.
The Director who explained that the previous policy expired in 2022 said that the reviewed Nigeria National Standardization Strategy which is a compendium of standards would be a four year plan from 2024 – 2027.
In a paper presentation, entitled product Authentication Mark: it uses and importance to National Economic Development, the Deputy Director, Product Certification, Mr. Ololade Ayoola explained that the move was to check the influx of sub-standard goods and services as well as counterfeit products.
Mr. Ayoola also said it would enable consumers to experience real time authentication of products without external influence and at no cost.
The Director General of the Standard Organization of Nigeria, Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke represented by the Director Public Relations, Mrs Foluso Bolaji said the essence of the workshop was to form journalists about the activities of the agency with the aim to correct public assumptions about the organization.
The Chairman, Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria CICAN, Mr. Ifeanyi Onuba commended the organization for the workshop and promised to sustain the relationship to enable educate the public adequately.
