TWO SOLAR STREETLIGHT THIEVES ELECTROCUTED IN BAYELSA COMMUNITY                                                                          30-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                              Two persons have been electrocuted during an alleged attempt to steal solar streetlights at Ogobiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

A community member who gave his name as Mr. Ebi said their bodies were discovered in the morning within an area bordering the New Site of the state-owned Niger Delta University and Ogobiri roundabout.

Another eyewitness stated that the suspected vandals had already removed four streetlight poles on the ground and were trying to remove the fifth one before they met their demise when the pole fell on the nearby high-tension wires.

He explained that Unfortunately, there was power and they got electrocuted, as one of the suspects was severely burnt and died instantly, while the other was burnt beyond recognition.

The other body was taken away to the mortuary while the streetlight poles were still lined up beside the road.

Community members say vandalism of streetlights was rampant in the area and that the incident would help reduce the growing crime.

When contacted for comments, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr Musa Mohammed, said he has not received the report yet.
