SHEHU SANI FAULTS LABELLING OF PRESIDENT TINUBU, OTHER AFRICAN LEADERS AS MOST CORRUPT                                                                                                    02-01-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  Former Senator for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has faulted the modalities used to produce the 2024 Corrupt Person of the Year list.

On Monday, the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) published the controversial list on which President Bola Tinubu is placed among the top five.

Founded in 2006, OCCRP is a global network of investigative journalists with staff on six continents.

OCCRP said it asked for nominations from readers, journalists, the Person of the Year judges and others in the OCCRP global network to produce the list.

According to the organisation, more than 55,000 nominations were submitted by voters.

“The finalists who received the most votes this year were: President of Kenya William Ruto; Former President of Indonesia Joko Widodo; President of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina; Indian businessman Gautam Adani,” the OCCRP said.

Reacting, Sani faulted OCCRP for relying on opinions rather than objective facts to produce the list.

“Labelling the Nigerian President and other African Leaders as the most corrupt by online voting, and not by incontrovertible facts and figures is more of a political rating crafted from views, opinions and perspectives,” Sani said.
