KANO MOVES TO BOOST POWER, TRANSPORT AND WELFARE……..

The Kano State Executive Council has approved a series of major projects aimed at improving power supply, transportation, water access, environmental management, and humanitarian support across the state.
According to a statement from the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the approvals reflect Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and improving the lives of Kano residents.
One of the key highlights is the purchase of 500 electric tricycles worth ₦3.7 billion under the Abba Gida Gida Mass Transport Programme, designed to enhance mobility and empower young people. To boost electricity supply, the Council approved ₦2.1 billion for new generators at Government House, ₦393 million for low-voltage cables, and ₦1.5 billion to settle offshore debts for hydro power plants at Tiga and Challawa. Other power-related payments include ₦94 million in operational debts and over ₦713 million for diesel supply to support water facilities.
To address water shortages, the Council approved ₦188 million and ₦286 million to pay KEDCO energy bills for March and April 2025, respectively. Environmental improvements include a ₦300 million allocation for the NEWMAP-EIB project, and over ₦600 million for drainage construction across various LGAs.
In addition, ₦3 billion in Federal Government relief funds will be distributed to flood victims across all 44 LGAs, with another ₦39 million in materials going specifically to Doguwa. The government also approved ₦152 million for a mini stadium in Kwankwaso, ₦244 million for KNUPDA vehicles, and ₦2.5 billion for expanded road safety and urban renewal projects.
Governor Yusuf expressed concern over continued water scarcity and urged relevant agencies to act quickly, assuring that full government support is already in place.
These approvals, the government stated, are part of a broader plan to modernize Kano and improve daily life for its citizens.
