NIGERIA, BRAZIL DEEPEN DEFENCE TIES

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to fully implementing its defence agreement with Brazil, signed in June.

Speaking in Brasília during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit, Abubakar said the deal will strengthen collaboration, boost technology transfer, and enhance Nigeria’s local defence production.

He highlighted the importance of joint maritime operations, defence-industrial growth, and Brazil’s support in securing the Gulf of Guinea, stressing that the focus must shift from “agreements to action” with measurable results.

Both nations agreed to set up a structured defence dialogue framework to ensure accountability and sustained cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, and maritime safety, key pillars of Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
