ILLEGAL MARRIAGE: HISBAH ARRESTS FIVE IN KANO

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested five youths over an alleged illegal marriage conducted without parental consent in Rimin Kebe, Nasarawa LGA.

Deputy Commander General, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspects, the supposed couple and three others, secretly arranged the marriage with a dowry of ₦10,000, far below the Islamic standard.

He noted the ceremony had no guardian, credible witnesses, or religious authority, violating Islamic and legal marital procedures.

The Board has begun investigations and invited parents for counseling and resolution.
