ECOWAS TO SCRAP AIR TRANSPORT TAXES BY 2026

ECOWAS says all air transport taxes will be removed and aviation charges cut by 25% from January 1, 2026, a move expected to make flights across West Africa cheaper and boost regional travel.
Transport Director Chris Appiah said the decision, endorsed by ECOWAS leaders, targets high taxes that make West Africa one of the costliest regions for air travel. Airlines are now being engaged to ensure ticket prices reflect the reductions.
ECOWAS says the reform will drive tourism, trade, and regional integration by increasing travel demand.
