NCAA CERTIFIES KANO, PORT HARCOURT AIRPORTS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has certified the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport and the Port Harcourt International Airport, confirming that both facilities meet required safety and operational standards.

The certification, granted after a comprehensive assessment, marks the first time the two airports have received NCAA approval and expands the number of certified international airports in the country. NCAA Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, said the exercise demonstrates the authority’s commitment to enforcing aviation regulations and aligning Nigeria’s airports with international standards.

He noted that certification is a globally recognised confirmation that airport infrastructure, operations and safety systems are adequate, adding that it improves confidence among airlines, passengers and insurers.

Receiving the certificates on behalf of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku assured that FAAN would promptly address outstanding corrective actions identified during the process. She described the certification as a major boost to Nigeria’s aviation credibility and a step towards improved service delivery across the sector.
