ADELEKE ORDERS REVIVAL OF SAFE SCHOOL INITIATIVE AFTER OYO SCHOOL ABDUCTIONS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate revitalisation of the Safe School Initiative following the recent abduction of pupils and school officials in neighbouring Oyo State.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, who said the move was aimed at preventing any possible spillover of insecurity into Osun communities.

According to the statement, the governor instructed the Ministry of Education, security agencies and other relevant authorities to strengthen security around schools, particularly those located in border communities and remote areas of the state.

Adeleke also directed the Amotekun Corps to intensify intelligence gathering and strengthen collaboration with local security groups and peace organisations already supporting security operations in schools across the state.

The development follows Friday’s attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where several pupils and school officials were reportedly abducted by gunmen.

The governor assured parents, pupils and school authorities that his administration remained committed to ensuring the safety of students across the state’s education system.
