President Bola Tinubu has urged the judiciary to close legal loopholes used by politically exposed persons and other suspects to delay or frustrate the prosecution of financial crimes.
Tinubu made the call in Abuja at the eighth EFCC-National Judicial Institute Capacity Building Workshop for Judges and Justices. He was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The President urged judges to review outdated legal precedents and strengthen their capacity to handle increasingly complex financial crimes involving cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence and other digital technologies.
He stressed that an independent judiciary was essential to the fight against corruption, warning that procedural technicalities should not be used to shield offenders from justice.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, called for continuous judicial training and improved case management to strengthen the handling of digital evidence.
Also speaking, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede urged greater collaboration among justice sector stakeholders, noting that technological advances were creating new challenges for investigating and prosecuting financial crimes.
