Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has pledged financial support to the mother of Ifeanyi Nwolie, his supporter who was reportedly shot dead during a political activity in Enugu State.
Obi made the pledge while attending Nwolie’s burial in Afa, Udi Local Government Area, assuring his mother that he would continue the financial assistance her late son provided.
According to a statement by Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), the former Anambra State governor pledged a 15-month stipend to support the bereaved mother through December 2027.
Nwolie was reportedly shot during a political activity on October 10, 2026, that was marred by violence.
Obi described the incident as a painful reminder of the consequences of political hostility and urged political candidates at all levels to reject violence, ethnic division and religious intolerance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
