The Ebonyi State Police Command has launched an investigation into an attack on the convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ezza South State Constituency, Rollins Offia-Nwali, in Amaezekwe, Ezza South Local Government Area.
The attack reportedly left one party member, identified as Jude Nwamgbada, dead, several others injured and a Hilux van belonging to the candidate burnt.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, said officers responded to a distress call but found that the attackers had already killed one supporter and wounded several others. The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital, while the victim’s body was evacuated.
Ukandu said investigations were ongoing and warned politicians and their supporters against violence and intimidation, adding that anyone found responsible would be prosecuted.
Meanwhile, Ezza South Local Government Chairman, Chinedu Mkpuma, directed that all political gatherings in the area must obtain approval from his office to prevent further security breaches.
