Vice President Kashim Shettima has commissioned the 400-bed Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri, as Borno State intensifies efforts to improve healthcare and reduce medical tourism.
The hospital, established by Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration, is equipped to provide specialised medical services, support medical education and improve access to advanced treatment across Borno State and the North-East.
The facility features 13 specialist departments, advanced diagnostic equipment, a medical college complex, students’ hostel, staff residential estate and an oxygen plant.
It is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state or country for specialised treatment while providing training opportunities for doctors and other healthcare professionals.
During his visit on Friday, Shettima also commissioned two mega primary schools in Maiduguri, including one built under the Kashim Shettima Free Education Programme for orphans and vulnerable children.
The Vice President commended Zulum for investing in healthcare and education, saying lasting public service should be measured by institutions built and lives improved.
