By Sadiq Aminu                                                      In Zamfara, Federal Government has assured of its commitments to ensure safe rescue of students of the federal University, Gusau.

Minister of Humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation Dr Betta Edu gave the assurance at Federal University Gusau, when she represented the federal government of Nigeria to the university to pay sympathy visit and assess the situation in the institution.

Betta who interacted with the rescued female students and give sympathy hug to all of them, advised them not to be deterred by the incident and continue to pursue their education, saying it will be well with them all.

She also reiterated the determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end insecurity in the region and other parts of the country, saying the university has come to stay and as such security of both students, staff and university community is paramount to the Federal government.

Speaking, the executive governor of Zamfara State Dauda Lawal has applauded the federal government’s visit to State, stressing that the State government in collaboration with the federal government will do everything humanly possible to ensure safe rescue of the remaining kidnapped students and restoration of normalcy in the state.

On his part, Vice chancellor of the University Prof Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau said 13 female students were rescued out of the 25 kidnapped on the 22nd of September, 2023, Noting that the Bandits are now targeting staff and students of the University.

He recalled that on the 17th of July, 2023 students of the university blocked Gusau – Funtua road and demonstrated for the abduction of their colleagues which last for over 5 hours. He thereafter presented the situation report to the minister.

Top government functionaries, university Dons, Students and other personalities were in attendance during the visit.
