POROUS BORDER AND PROLIFERATION OF ILLEGAL WAEPONS IDENTIFIED AS CAUSES FOR INCREASING SPATE OF BANDITRY- EX MACBAN PRESIDENT                                                                                                                 04-05-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 Former National President Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria MACBAN, Alh Usaini Yusuf Bosso has identified porous border and the proliferation of illegal waepons in to the country as major factors responsible for the inability of security agencies to bring an end to cases of banditry in Nigeria.

He stated this while interacting with Newsmen in Minna, the Niger state capital.

Alh Usaini Yusuf Bosso also blamed problem of informants as another major set back that has made the fight against insurgency in Nigeria very frustrating despite the commitment of security agencies in addressing the menace.

The former MACBAN President lamented that both Katsina, Zamfara, Borno, and Sokoto states are sharing borders with Niger Republic which has made it easy for the proliferation of illegal waepons in to Nigeria, an ugly situation he said must be halted immediately to prevent further damages.

He however maintained that security agencies in Nigeria such as the Nigerian Army, Police DSS and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC have the capability, expertees and technical know how to defeat Boko Haram, what they required, is for the Federal Government to empower them adequately to enable them discharge their duties deligently.

He said the Boko Haram that have been leaving in Munya, Rafi, and Shiroro local government areas of Niger state as well as Birnin Gwari and Giwa local government areas of Kaduna state are not above our security agencies that knows where they are based from intelligence report, which he said had given them the upper hand to just strike and eliminate them at will.

Alh Usaini Yusuf Bosso also cautioned the Federal Government against allowing security in the hands of every person apart from relevant security agencies, saying that for vigilante members to assist security agencies in fighting banditry they must be subjected to rigorous training to check their excesses for optimal performance..

On the idea of signing truce with criminals, he said he is not in support of that, as they will never leave their comfort zones where they are getting millions of naira to where they will be getting almost nothing.

Alh Usaini Yusuf Bosso applauded both Niger state Government and the Federal Government for their commitment in fighting criminals and criminality saying that the present administration at the National level has demonstrated extra commitment in fighting crime compared to the immediate past administration and called for prayers and support by well meaning Nigerians to succeed.
