FG TO PROVIDE RESETTLEMENT CITIES FOR INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS: BETTA EDU                                                                                                            16-09-23                                 By Sadiq Aminu                                                            The Federal government is to provide resettlement cities for internally Displaced Persons in Niger state.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu stated this during an assessment visit to the Gwada IDPs camp.

She said government was concerned that the IDPs have been residing in a school.

According to the Minister, the visit Was to understand the situation in the state to ensure proper humanitarian response to the people.

Dr Edu explained that a team from the ministry will be sent to the state next week to verify the social register and work out modalities for expansion.

The Minister who expressed dismay over the closure of four hundred schools due to security challenges gave an assurance that the ministry will work with UNICEF and other relevant agencies to provide conducive learning atmosphere for displaced children.

The wife of the Niger State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Umar Bago who accompanied the Minister to the IDP camp stressed the need to address the security challenges bedeviling the the state to ensure peaceful coexistence.
