By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban
The Anambra State Government has blamed poor construction and non-compliance with building regulations for the collapse of a two-storey building in Inyaba Village, Umudim, Nnewi.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Chijioke Ojukwu, said the ministry would evacuate occupants of a three-storey building in the same compound as a precautionary measure.
He said the building would undergo a mandatory integrity test after the evacuation and could be demolished if it fails to meet safety standards.
Excavation work was still ongoing at the collapsed building as of the time of filing this report, while the number of casualties remained unknown.
