The Wife of Borno governor, Hajiya Falmata Zulum, has renewed the commitment of her husband’s administration to women empowerment through various opportunities.

Mrs Zulum made this known in her message to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day in Maiduguri.

She stressed the need to consolidate on achievements made so far by the administration in empowering women across the state through robust, broad and strategic consultations on women empowerment that cut across all spheres of human endeavours.

“His Excellency, Governor of Borno State has provided cash assistance for early recovery to both male and female headed household as an example of equal opportunity without discrimination based on gender.

“I wish to also use this opportunity to thank the state legislature for their support on issues concerning women, and we count on you for more support on the protection of rights of women,” she said.

The governor’s wife, who described this year’s theme “DigitAll: Innovation and technology for gender equality” as apt and timely, urged for focused attention on girl-child education to address it.

“We believe that for us to effectively promote and key into this year’s theme, we need to have more girls enrolled into our school and ensure their completion at all levels of education.

“Further, we celebrate our young women who are already engaged both in hard and software aspect of ICT. With more support and encouragement, more women will make it,’’ she said.

On the local theme, “Political participation of women at the grassroots”, she urged women to come out enmasse to vote in the general elections.

She assured women and all stakeholders of Zulum’s commitment to promote, protect and preserve the dignity, integrity, personality and reputation of women as the key into innovation and technology for gender equality.

Some of the programmes organised to mark the day in Borno included discussion programmes and the empowerment of some women with food and non-food items.
