The Kaduna State University, KASU has expressed optimism that the permanent site of the University, comprising engineering and law faculties that is under construction will commenced full operation in the next six months.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa stated this during an inspection tour with the management staff of the University at its Permanent Site in Rigachikun, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

He expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State government, Tertiary Education Trust fund, TEtfund and other donors for their efforts toward making the multi-million naira project a huge success.

The Vice Chancellor pointed out that with the pace of work going at the permanent site, the University will soon invite the National Universities Commission, NUC, and the Nigerian Council for the regulation of engineering, including Council for Legal Education for resource verification and assessment to commence law and engineering programmes at the University.

Prof. Abdullahi said by the year 2024 the Kaduna State University, KASU would relocate to its permanent site for the full commencement of academic programmes with a view to enhancing socio-economic and educational development of the state and the country in general.

“We are here today to expressed our appreciation to the Kaduna State Government, particularly
Senator Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State who secure funding for the Engineering faculty from CBN,
and other funders including Tertiary Education Trust fund TEtfund and other Bodies that are supporting Kaduna State University, in the areas of facilities, and other civil structures at our permanent site,

“As you can see, we came in with Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Administration, including the consultants for law Faculty and Engineering, and from what we have seen, we are in the right position to make a pronouncement that in the next six months, we hope to invite the relevant professional bodies, particularly the NUC for resource verification to begin our law program,

“From what we have seen in the engineering site, we also intend to invite the NUC and the Nigerian Council for the regulation of engineering to assess our resources and facilities so as we can begin the engineering programs”, explained the VC.

While conducting journalist and the management team round the facility in Rigachikun, the Provost, College of Science, and Engineering who is also the Consultant for the Engineering Program Prof. Hyencinth Aboh appreciated the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN for sponsoring the project, and expressed happiness for the steady progress of work at the permanent site.

Prof. Aboh was optimistic that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN will further fund the equipments and facilities needed for the wholesome take off of the engineering program at the University.

He said” as you can see work is progressing steadily, and I’m sure funds will not be a problem, I also feel that when the structures are completed, CBN would graciously fund the type of equipments in order to take off this program, as the building itself will not make engineers, it has to come with a component”

On his part, legal Consultant for the establishment of Law Program, Professor. Nasirudeen Usman posited that law is a Professional Program that is guided by the National Universities Commission, NUC, and the Council for Legal Education, the statutory body that regulates legal education in Nigeria.

He said the visit followed the need to assessed the physical facilities at the University’s Permanent Site to ensure that they comply with the requirements of the two bodies as regards to what was needed for the effective execution of the program.

The legal Consultant noted that, with his wealth of experience in the profession, the University was in the right stand to start a viable law program that will compete favourably with any university within and outside the country.

He was confident that the University will be ready for resource verification by NUC in March next year, noting that the first set of students would be taken by the next year’s admission exercise for the commencement of the program at the University.

“The building of Kaduna State University Faculty of law is probably one of the best you can find in the country, so I’m quite happy with this, but what remains is to make sure that we see it through, not only the physical infrastructure, but the equipment as well, then we do the soft development of the program in terms of the curriculum content so that we have a law that truly suit the yearnings of the communities,” he added.
