BORNO: BOSG RESUME BIOMETRICS OF REPENTANT BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS………..

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Borno State Government has resumed the biometrics data capture of repentant Boko Haram insurgents.

In a statement by the Commissioner for.Information and Internal Security Professor Usman Tar says the data processing was scheduled to be conducted in six batches by a certified team of intelligence and ICT experts with utmost level of professionalism and confidentiality in data management.

However the statement adds, due to a bridge in communication, those supposed to appear for the data capture at a later date appeared on Friday, August 18, leading to confusion at a camp, where the exercise was being conducted.

According  to Professor Tar, a total of 6,900 repentant insurgent are processed under the multi-agency framework of Disarmament, Demobilisation, Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, Reconciliation and Reintegration otherwise known as the “Borno Model.”

The statement assures members of the public that the situation is under control and normalcy has been restored at the venue of the biometric exercise.

Radio Nigeria reports that some repentant insurgents on Friday blocked the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway expressing their anger following the delay on the biometric exercise.
