NIGER GOVERNMENT ASKS TO COLLAPSED THE N110M LABOUR PALLIATIVES FOR PAYMENT OF WORKERS AND RETIREES: NLC 04-09-23
By: Sadiq Aminu Organised labour in Niger state has unanimously resolved that the one hundred and ten million naira allocated to it by the state government as palliatives for industrial unions be collapsed and added to whatever palliatives is intended for the generality of workers in the state.
Similarly it should also be credited to the salary accounts of civil servants and retirees in both the state and local government councils sustainably for six months.
Chairman Niger State Chapel of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Comrade Abdulkarim Idris Lafene stated this while addressing Newsmen in Minna the state.
Comrade Idris Lafene explained that the deliberate plan by NIger state government to skim out the working class and pensioners in the palliatives has triggered serious tension among members organised labour that could have negative effect on the overall productivity of working class.
He further directed workers in Niger state to boycott partipation in the committe set up by the NIger state government for the distribution of palliatives schedule to commence tommorrow.
Accoding to him labour in Niger state demanded for the payment of fifty thousand naira on a flat rate basis as palliatives to all working class and retirees in the state and local government councils suspension of PAYEE and immediate implementation of outstanding promotions and annual increment for eligible workers
On the directive of NLC to thirty six states and Abuja to down tool in a two days warning strike begining from tommorrow the Chairman NIger state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Idris Lafene said they have already mobilised workers to comply fully and comprehensively.
He also added that organised labour remains committed to the struggle for welfare of workers and that they will partner with and support government to move Niger state forward.
