FG TO LABOUR: SHELVE STRIKE AND GIVE US TWO WEEKS TO RESPOND CONCRETELY                                       4/9/2023

By: Sadiq Aminu                                                        The Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Simon Lalong has appealed to the organised labour to shelved the proposed warning strike and give Federal Government two weeks to response concretely to their demands.

Mr Lalong made the appeal during a conciliatory meeting in Abuja summoned at his instance to engage the leadership of NLC and TUC towards averting the warning strike scheduled for Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th of September, 2023.

He explained that the Federal Government understand the inevitable pains that come with the subsidy removal and released two billion to each state as palliative measures and directed state governors to ensure that their citizens get the palliative to assuage the effects of the subsidy removal.

The minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Simon Lalong pleaded further that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all the ministers to work with relevant stakeholders to deliver people oriented services that would impact directly on the lives of Nigerians.

The President, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC Mr Festus Osifo who attended the meeting with his executive members said they do not have confidence in the manner in which the distribution of the 2 billion released to governors is being carried out.

While urging the Federal Government to immediately approve a wage award for workers as a direct intervention to reduce the current hardship on them, Comrade Osifo clarified that TUC will give federal government sometime to respond to their demands.

Meanwhile, our correspondent reports that the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC were not in attendance at the meeting.
