BOAT MISHAP: OVER 24 CORPSES, 30 PERSONS RESCUED BY NIGER SEMA                                                              10-09-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                    Over twenty four corpses have been recovered and thirty persons rescued by officials of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency following a boat mishap that occured between Jebba and Kianji dam in Gbajibo village of Mokwa Local Gobernment Council.

Acting Director General Niger State Emergency Management Agency Alh Garba Salihu confirmed this in a statement issued to Newsmen in Minna.

Alh Garba Salihu explained that officials of the Agency and that of Mokwa Local Government Council are jointly conducting search rescue and recovery operation at scene of the incident

Accoding to him over one hundred persons are said to be onboard the boat when he incident occured.

He said the victims who are coming from Gbajibo Ekwa and Yankyade communities were on their way to their farms when the unfortunate incident happened.

Meanwhile Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has expressed shock over the boat mishap in Mokwa Local Government Council that has claimed many lives.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretaty Bologi Ibrahim the Governor said it shocking and sorrowful situation to its people and prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased.

Alh Umar Bago reiterated the importance of the use of life jacket when boarding and to obstain from overcrowded boats.
