SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS ONGOING TO UNCOVER MORE BODIES ALONG THE RIVER NIGER COAST: MUREGI                                                          10-09-23                                                          By Sadiq Aminu                                              Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the coast of River Niger to recover more bodies from the Boat mishap which claimed many lives in Mokwa Local Government Area.

The Boat which was conveying about one hundred Residents of Gbajibo village to their Farmlands to harvest grandnut capsized after hitting a Tree.

As the time of this report, twenty four lifeless bodies comprising of nineteen females and five men from Gbajibo,Ekwa and Yenkede villages have been recovered.

The Council Chairman of Mokwa Local Government,Comrade Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi while expressing sadness over the incident commended Marine Police, the State Emergency Management Agency and Local Divers for their continued rescue efforts.

Reacting to the incident,the Senator Representing Niger South Senatorial District, Senator Peter Ndalikali Jiya who urged the Communities to see the event as an act of God advocated better safety measures on waterway.
