NAPTIP APPLAUDS CONVICTING SEXUAL PREDATOR, ABUBAKAR MUSTAPHA DANKARA, BY AN ABUJA COURT 20-09-23
By Sadiq Aminu The life sentence of the former chief pharmacist of the National Hospital Dr. Abubakar Mustapha Danraka, has been described as a win for all lovers of justice.
Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Professor Fatima Waziri-Azi in a statement hails the judiciary for its doggedness in ensuring that justice is served under the Violence Agaisnt Persons Prohibition,VAPP Act.
The NAPTIP Director General says it will sustain collaboration with its partners and stakeholders, to continue to scale efforts in ensuring more convictions and less impunity.
The statement adds that the rape case is the third conviction secured by NAPTIP in the FCT for the year 2023.
The conviction was secured by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, sitting in Kubwa, Abuja and presided over by Justice Akanbi-Yusuf.
Dr. Abubakar Mustapha Danraka, the former chief pharmacist of the National Hospital Abuja and the Senior Special Adviser (Technical) to the Director of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, (Sodomy) under Section 1 of the VAPP Act of 2015.
The ruling ends a three-year controversy surrounding the case which had attracted much attention from stakeholders across the Country.
On March 27th, 2020, Dr. Danraka was arrested for defiling a minor, his neighbour, who lived in the same estate with him in Abuja.
He lured the victim to his apartment and had anal intercourse with him after stupefying him with a drink.
