GWADA IDP: 10 BIRTHS,12 DEATHS RECORDED IN NIGER IDP CAMP IN 4 YEARS 29-09-23
By Sadiq Aminu The female Victims of terrorists and bandits attacked in Gwada IDP camp in Shiroro local council of Niger State has given birth to 10 children within 4 years.
Findings by the Guardian Newspaper revealed that majority of the women that gave birth came to the camp with the pregnancy.
The Chairman IDP camp, Gwada central primary school, Lado Pada who gave the hint to Africa 247 explained that the women were among the victims that abandoned their villages as a result of terrorists attack, he stressed that since they arrived in the camp, officials took note of their pregnancy.
Lado Pada observed that the camp is not conducive for women that gave birth to new babies, hence the need for relevant authorities to come to their aid so as to save the infants children from contacting communicable diseases in the camp.
Lado noted that after delivery, these women were not adequately attended to by health personnel, he therefore enjoined the state government to post primary health care workers to provide health care service to IDP camps in the state.
“Those female victims that gave birth in our camp came with their pregnancy, though their condition here is not palatable at all, as you can see, we don’t have enough toilets, our source of water is also not sufficient” Pada laments.
Pada disclosed that no fewer than 35 IDP’s, both adults, married women and children slept in a classroom, the situation he described as worrisome, adding that during the period under review, the camp has witnessed unprecedented population.
“In 4 years, our camp recorded 12 deaths, ranging from children, adults and aged,we are appealing to federal government to do everything possible to end activities of terrorists and banditry that has disrupt our entire livelihoods”.
“After killing our people and denied us access to our farms,we are aware bandits have also destroyed our homes and carted away with the ruffing sheets of the entire villages”.
Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon.Ahmed Suleiman Yum, while reacting to the complain of IDP’s, stated that the state is concerned of the challenges confronting IDP’s, adding that, the ministry had visited the camps with a view to providing immediate intervention to the IPD’s.
Yumu maintained that government was aware of the challenges in various camps, ranging from health care, water and sanitation, promising that governor Umaru Bago will leave no stone unturned to address them adequately.
“As you are aware, the Ministry is newly established and is because of the concern and pity Mr Governor has for the IDP’s, he created the Ministry, therefore,I am assuring IDP’s that we have concluded necessary plans to moving into camp’s with social amenities so as to ameliorate their suffering”.Yumu assured.
Suleiman lauded wealthy individuals as well as development partners for their tremendous support to the IPD’s in the state.
