WE ARE PUTTING STRUCTURES TO TACKLE POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAMS, SAYS BETTA EDU                                                                               30-09-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                             The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation under the leadership of Dr.Beta Edu is making key appointments to put proper structures in place before the smooth take-off of the second phase of poverty alleviation programmes to ensure effective delivery.

A statement by Special Adviser On media and publicity to the Minister Mr. Rasheed Zubair says the Sustainability plans of the World Bank after the end of phase 1 of Youth Empowerment, Social Support Operations (YESSO) and Social Development Programme (CSDP) was what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unfolded in the YESSO and CSDP 2.0 phase 2 through the Ministry, contrary to a false and misleading reports published by the Saturday edition of Daily Trust newspaper concerning recent appointments made by the Honourable Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Beta Edu, that the two programmes have been phase out in the Ministry.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation says two Programmes are still running by the Federal Government under the Ministry and their take-off will be funded by the National Social Safety Net office as signed in the sustainability plan of the Programs.

The statement noted that new strategy to change the programme structure for effective delivery was based on the new mandate given to the Ministry for the two programmes to meet the desire result.

The statement says the legal agreement between Nigeria and the World Bank was not tampered with; as the phase two of the programs are in line with the agreement as part of the sustainability plans of President Tinubu’s government.

The statement adds that the new strategy was to change the programme structure for effective delivery based on the new mandate of the Ministry and the legal agreement between Nigeria and the World Bank and Nigeria was still in place to reduce the humanitarian crisis and poverty in the country.
