FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PLEDGES TO REPOSITION FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE TO MEET INTERNATIONAL BEST PRACTICES 11-10-23
By Sadiq Aminu The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the pledge during the official inauguration of the newly acquired Fire Fighting Engines and Rapid Intervention Vehicles in Abuja.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo who described Fire Fighting as strategic said the size and capacity of Fire Fighters of any nation says alot about its economy and safety of the people.
He stated that the present administration under its “Renewed Hope” initiative will no longer relegate the Federal Fire Service to background but that it will ensure that the Service get whatever it needs to perform its functions just like its contemporaries in the developed World.
The Minister said once the bill for Fire and Rescue Service is assented to by the President, the Service will play a major role in National Development.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo maintained that for any country to attains its potential, the Fire Service cannot be taken for granted.
He therefore commended the leadership of the Federal Fire Service for its commitment and pro activeness.
The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Mr. Jaji AbdulGaniyu said the Federal Fire Service will continue to provide quality service in a timely manner to all Nigerians.
He said with the inauguration of these new vehicles the Federal Fire Service is in its way to greatness through the effective re-engineering of it activities.
He explained that so far due to the commitment of the Service and the Federal Government, the Federal Fire Service was able in the first quarter of 2023 to saved over thirty billion naira worth of properties across the country.
In a goodwill message, the Austrian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Thomas Schlesinger said in less than four years Austria had contributed more than forty one Fire Fighting Vehicles to Nigeria.
High point of the event was the inauguration of the 18 Fire Fighting Vehicles by the Minister of Interior assisted by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and the Controller General Federal Fire Service.
