FG STRIVES TO INSTIL PATRIOTISM AND TRUST IN LEADERSHIP ACROSS THE COUNTRY                                                                                                            18-10-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               The Federal Government says it is gearing up to revive patriotism and trust in leaders across the country.

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Muhammad Idris, stated this in Abuja during an interactive with State House correspondents, after he met with President Tinubu.

He noted that Nigerians no longer have trust in elected officials, lamenting also that the concept of nationhood and patriotism has broken down among the citizenry.

The Minister said the president had acceded to his request to initiate a programme to reconstruct and implant it in Nigerians.

Alhaji Muhammad Idris said, “Mr. President has given me a marching order to see that Nigerians believe in this country once again. We’re coming up with national discourse on orientation or reorientation so that Nigerians can believe in their country.

He observed that flags were not flying anymore, expressing concern that the attitude has extended Nigerian Missions abroad.

The Minister said that plans had been made to revive information offices in local government areas across the country and place the required personnel to implement the new reorientation drive.

Alhaji Muhammad Idris also gave assurance that President Tinubu, as a mediaman, would not seek to gag media, but that the media has to be sanitised to exercise freedom with responsibility.

“This freedom also comes with enormous responsibility. You can’t just say what is not right, because you’re enjoying press freedom. There’ll be freedom, but responsible freedom”, he added.
